Overview: Health Insurance In Quito

Ecuador, Quito

Quito Health Insurance

For ordinary accidents and illnesses, health care in the better hospitals and doctor’s offices in Quito is reliably on par with that of the United States and Europe, but much less expensive. Since health care is not state-funded, one must pay, and for that reason it can be worthwhile to purchase health insurance.

In general, plans cost between $40 to $120 per month for adults and cover from 70% to 100% of costs, up to a specified limit. Dental and eye-care coverage are generally not included. Some plans do not offer coverage outside of Ecuador, and those that do may offer coverage based on the cost of treatment in Ecuador.

Contracts are usually offered for a year, but may be negotiated down to six months or fewer.

Know which hospitals and clinics you are likely to use, and be sure that you will get the best prices there. Understand which coverage is by reimbursement.

Companies have some sales personnel who speak English, but be prepared to explain that you need to speak to an English-speaking sales representative for individual health insurance.
