Quito is a great place to plan your trip around Ecuador and to the Galapagos Islands - most of the travel agencies and tour operators are within a 5 block radius of each other in the Mariscal sector. In addition, many of the lodges, hotels and tour operators around Ecuador have their bases in Quito. Also with the surrounding natural playground for hikers, climbers, bikers and of snow-capped volcanoes, natural hot springs, rivers, excellent trails, Quito makes an excellent base for adventure travel in the Andes.
Quito is the second-best place, after Puerto Ayora in the Galapagos Islands, to find last-minute deals on Galapagos Island cruises and Galapagos Island tours. The Mariscal is bursting with tour agencies specializing in just that. Shop around and you may find an incredible deal.
