Isla Lobos is the closest dive site to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, only about a half hour away by boat. The popular dive/snorkeling site is formed by San Cristóbal island on one side and long, narrow Lobos Island on the other. The result is a shallow, protected bay of sorts which is somewhat cloudy, but very popular among novice divers and snorkelers, as the water is warm, there is a lot to see, it's not very deep (About 25-30 feet maximum, most of it is shallower), there are no currents or big waves, and you're almost guaranteed to see sea lions frolicking nearby. If you're there in the late morning or early afternoon, there is also a good chance you'll see marine iguanas eating seaweed underwater. Most dive shops in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno will offer Isla Lobos as part of a two-dive day trip with Kicker Rock.
As a dive site, Isla Lobos is highly recommended for beginners and those wishing to have a relaxing, low-stress trip. Expect to see sea lions, marine iguanas, sea urchins and several species of common Galápagos fish, like surgeonfish and blennies. Sightings of green sea turtles, stingrays, octopi, and scorpionfish are common.
Isla Lobos is also a great place for snorkelers: if you're in a mixed party of divers and snorkelers, it's a good site to visit.
