V!VA User‘s Description

The Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus galapagoensis, lechuza de orejas cortas) is the most commonly seen owl in the Galápagos. It is dark brown in color with light mottled markings, a dark facial disc, yellow eyes, and a dark bill. You are most likely to see the diurnal hunter in the early morning or evening, when it is out looking for its next meal of small birds, rats, or mice. It makes its nests on open ground, where it lays three to four eggs.

This species is found on every major island, except Wolf.
