The only member of the Angelfish family to be found in Galápagos, the King Angelfish (holacanthus passer) is a favorite of many snorkelers and divers. This very beautiful fish is common in most snorkeling and diving areas. They prefer rocky areas to sandy bottoms. They are oval-shaped and have a dark blue body with a distinctive white stripe behind the gill. The top and back fins are yellow to orange. They are generally seen alone or in pairs: they occasionally school. Sudden movements will frighten them: it is best to approach slowly to get a good look.
