A common sight for snorkelers and divers, the parrot fish is very colorful and not terribly shy, which makes it a favorite. Common at most of the dive sites throughout Galápagos, the parrot fish is a large member of the wrasse family. It has a long body, large scales, and a distinctive parrot-like beak with which it crunches coral in order to eat the organisms inside: you can often hear their munching before you see them. Most are bluish-green with hints of yellow and orange.
