A member of the damselfish family, sergeant-majors are commonly seen at most Galápagos snorkeling and diving sites (and around the world, in fact). They are small (up to eight inches) oval-shaped fish, yellow-green with distinctive blue-black stripes. These stripes give it it's name: they resemble the stripes on a sergeant-major's uniform. They are not terribly shy and can usually be easily approached by slow-moving swimmers.
