The Flag Cabrilla (Epinephelus Labriformis) is a favorite of divers and snorkelers in Galápagos, as it is very common, prefers shallow water and is not terribly timid. North American divers and snorkelers may think it looks like a bass. It has a greenish/olive to reddish to gray body and is easily identified by its numerous white spots and milky blotches. It also has a distinctive black spot on the upper side of the base of its tail. They prefer rocks and reefs and don’t tend to move much: you’ll usually see them lurking on ledges and in crevasses as you pass. Approach slowly and you should get a good look.
