There are lots of things to see and do in Puerto Ayora. There are a handful of semi-regulated visitor sites in and around the town and it’s possible to visit them without a naturalist guide.
There are some good beaches in town and nearby. The most convenient is the Station beach, not far from the Charles Darwin Research Station, but the ones at Garrapatero and Tortuga Bay are much nicer.
In the highlands, there are giant tortoises to view as well as lava tubes to explore. Hikers may want to visit Cerro Crocker, the highest point on Santa Cruz. Los Gemelos is a pair of sinkholes which are popular with birdwatchers.
If these sites aren’t enough, it’s possible to arrange day tours to nearby islands like Santa Fe or Floreana.
