The Hostal Mainao (don't be fooled by the name: it's no hostal but a hotel) is a pleasant, clean, multi-story hotel located a couple of blocks off the main street in Puerto Ayora. The staff are friendly, the location is convenient, and the included breakfast is quite good. The rooms are clean, airy and comfortable, and the maids do a good job keeping them clean. There are 19 rooms, for a maximum capacity of about 45 people.

The rates reflect different seasons: prices will go down in May-June and September.October; check the hotel web page for the latest information. The higher prices are for nice suites. All of the rooms have air conditioning and fans to keep you cool.

Prices are a bit steep for a hotel with no ocean view or cable TV: still, the Mainao is quite nice and you're bound to find it charming. If you're looking for something upper mid-range in terms of price it's worth checking out. They do offer group rates and multi-day packages that include trips into Academy Bay and around the island. Guides speak English, French and Italian and some have up to 30 years experience working on the islands.
