Hotel España, one of the best budget options in Puerto Ayora, is clean, friendly and has been recently been renovated. The hotel is in a good location, plus the rooms are neat and tidy, and the mattresses have all been recently replaced. There is a new, attractive downstairs common area and even some hammocks for hanging out. The owner, Genoveva, is a friendly local lady who likes helping travelers find the right tours for them, and her daughter Esther is a SCUBA guide who can also answer any questions about the islands or about what you should see and do there. The hotel has 19 rooms, but tends to fill up, so you should either make reservations or call ahead before going to Puerto Ayora. Hotel España is priced comparably with the Hotel Gardner next door (although the hotels are not affiliated). The two hotels are probably the best value for budget lodging in town, so if one is full, your first stop should be the other.

The hotel was attractive and clean, with friendly helpful staff and good prices. I stayed there in June 2009 and would happily stay there again.
Besides having comfortable clean rooms at an affordable price, the proprietress of Hotel Espana is what makes a difference. Ester was great and helped us with everything form our daily activites and arranging discuont day trips, to where to eat. Highly recommended.
The hotel is located in a great place close to all the facilities of the town. The owner and staff are very knowledgeable. They help you with everything so that you make the best of your time on the island and go out of there way to make your stay a relaxed one, without worries. Breafast is good and cheap, the rooms are comfortable and there are especially nice views from the new rooms on the 3rd floor. We are budget travellers but lived in luxury, with A/C, TV and a private bathroom.
There were problems with bathrooms in both rooms we were given, a leaking toilet in one and no water at the sink in the other. Lots of late night noise at the otherwise nice common areas in the hotel.
