The Hotel Gardner is one of Puerto Ayora's newer budget options (as of November, 2007, there was still some construction being done). Clean and friendly, the Gardner is a very good option for low-on-cash travelers. The $15 per person rate may seem a bit high for those travelers accustomed to staying in Quito or Cuenca, but it is a very good value in a town where the cheapest room will still cost you $8. The rooms are spacious and neat.

Some of the downstairs rooms are windowless, and can get quite dark: ask for one of the sunnier upstairs rooms if they are available. Each room has private bathroom, floor fans and TV, although only with local channels. There is an attached travel agency next door operated by the owners: it's a good place to book simple daytrips like tours of Academy Bay. There is a large room on the top floor with five beds in it: a good option if you're traveling in a larger group or with a family.

The Hotel Gardner is located next door to the Hotel España, which is similarly priced and also a very good value: the two hotels are not in any way affiliated.
