Remember that one spring break back in college, when you and a bunch of buddies went to Fort Lauderdale? And you had booked the cheapest hotel in town, because you figured, hey, I’ll be too busy partying to care what the place looks like? And it had a pool, so how bad could it be? And you got there, and found a squarish, whitewashed place with flaking paint, tired-looking palm trees and cracked tiles that looked like it had weathered one hurricane too many?
Well, that hotel has been shipped brick-by-worn-out-brick down to the Galapagos, where it has been rebuilt and renamed the Ninfa. Right down to the sagging hammocks and broken pool table, it’s all there.
Now, I’m not saying this is a bad place. On the contrary, by Galapagos standards, it’s not a bad deal in the mid-price range. I’m just saying you shouldn’t buy the “high-class luxury hotel” line that you’ll get from their official websites and literature.
The pool is quite nice, and Hotel Ninfa is a good option for families on a budget. It’s well located, and the reception area is nice. Rooms have air conditioning and hot water.
The Ninfa owns a small ship and package tours are available.
