The dolled-up Red Booby occupies a very specific place on the food chain of Puerto Ayora Hotels. It’s nice and expensive enough to keep out the riff-raff, but doesn’t really hit the four-star status that it obviously desires. The bedspreads and curtains are very nice, but can’t change the fact that the rooms are boxy, bare and a little grim. Still, the pool is very nice, as it occupies the whole top floor and has a great view. It’s perfect if you want to spend a little more on a nicer hotel, but can’t go all-out and stay at a place like the Finch Bay. It will appeal to this ‘tweener crowd only, however: most visitors will either decide to pony up a few more bucks for a nicer place or sacrifice the nice pool and pretty bedspreads for the sake of cutting their hotel bill in half and staying somewhere like the Hotel Castro.

P.S. In case you're confused, no, there is no such thing as a Red Booby. Red-footed Booby, yes. Red Booby, no. This apparent lack of creativity seems odd until you consider the Red Booby's motto: "Enjoy the comfort and elegance of Red Booby." Man, I hope they didn't pay some ad guy very much for that one.
