Hotel Silberstein

The Hotel Silberstein, formerly known as the Hotel Angermeyer, is a modern, intimate, and beautifully-landscaped hotel. It has 22 clean, romantic rooms, each containing private hot bath, ceiling fan and air-conditioning, and a view toward the lush courtyard/swimming pool area. There are 11 matrimonial double rooms, eight double rooms with twin beds, and three triple rooms.

Comfort, style, and attention to detail (not to mention price) are at a maximum at the Hotel Silberstein. A sandy space near the pool can serve as a barbeque-pit or playplace for youngsters. The garden surrounding the open-air bar provides a diverse, eye-catching landscape (as well as providing interesting data for plant and bird surveys conducted by the Charles Darwin Research). And the restaurant and its island-famous gourmet chef serve spectacular and unique dishes to please.

The hotel partners with the Galextur to offer four to eight-day tours with overnight accommodations in Puerto Ayora. It can also arrange cruise tours on the sailboat Sulidae.

Traveler Reviews of Hotel Silberstein

Never again

Likes: beautiful flowering vines and trees Dislikes: * Not being able to flush any toilet tissue. Environmental reasons would be understandable if there was an acceptable sanitary alternative beyond the open basket next to the toilet. This should be disclosed on their website. * Room smelled of sewerage -- overloaded septic system? * Indifferent owners and staff. Not welcoming. It's obvious their hearts are not in hospitality. * Wait staff were not attentive to sanitary conditions -- did not wash hands and other observed things too gross to mention here. My travel campanion is convinced he got ill with improper handling of food at the Silberstein. * Restaurant service was horrible. We were sufficiently slowed down to the tempo of island life, but having to wait 10 minutes for milk after the coffee arrived is a bit much. This was typical each evening we had dinner. Wait staff were generall unavailable and unreasonably slow and disengaged with guests. * Front desk had many of the schedules for each day's tours confused. Departure times for excursions kept changing. Travel itineraries were not ready upon arrival. * Not a big problem for me, but for some not having a phone, radio or TV could matter. *Bill was not correct upon check-out. *This place is supremely over-rated even for a remote island facility such as it is. And it's too bad because I much prefer to be land based and take bus/boat excursions each day. I couldn't wait to leave the Silberstein.

The place to stay

A nice and cosy Hotel situated in a quiet area in Puerto Ayora close to the Charles Darwin Rersearch Center. The ambience is nice and relaxing. I liked the friendly staff - they were helpful to me.
