V!VA User‘s Description

The Casa del Lago Cafe Cultural was opened in 2004 by former guide and Imbabura resident Elena Albarado to provide a space for local artists, performers, movie screenings and festivals, special events, and other cultural activities. The cafe serves organic coffee grown on the islands and fantastic coffee drinks, perfectly complemented by helados de paila, homemade ice cream, Enrique Gallo. It also serves tasty and inexpensive breakfasts and vegetarian dishes, including healthy soups, salads, middle-eastern food, and bagels, those "panes raros" (strange breads) that U.S. tourists constantly crave. Internet, musical instruments, and board games are available for short-term use, and paintings and wooden crafts created by local elderly residents Come and enjoy participating in a socially responsible, delicious, and eye-catching (picture windows face the Laguna Las Ninfas) production.

Price Description: Meals in the restaurant start from $4.

Great Time / Great Hosts

Rating: 100%

Elena and Enrique were both fun to hang out with after a great meal. We'd share a little wine while we played and sang songs. Elena, having experience as a guide, planned a few magnificent trips for us. She was very easy going about it, no pressure. I should also add that they both gave us enough privacy.

El mejor cafe

Rating: 100%
