Grand Hotel Paraiso Insular - Hotel San Cristobal - Ecuador

Don’t let the fancy name intimidate you: the Grand Hotel Paraiso Insular is an above-average hotel with two locations almost across the street from one another on Avenida Alsacio Northia: try to get into the newer building if you can (it’s the one a little farther from town). The rooms in the newer structure have gas-heated hot water as opposed to the “electric showers” at the older building.

The rooms are your typical blocky San Cristobal fare, mostly with cable TV and small refrigerators. Some have air conditioning, and some have a fan: rooms with a/c cost about $20 more per night. Some of the rooms have a distant view of the ocean, but it’s nothing to get too excited about. The hotel has many rooms, making it popular with groups and organized tours.

The Grand Hotel Paraiso Insular used to be affiliated with the “Mar Azul” hotel across the street, but no longer.

The administration of the hotel is more-or-less professional. The girl in reception can help you book tours and trips if you can get her off the phone with her boyfriend. Unlike many of the other hotels in the low-medium price range, the Paraiso Insular can accept credit cards.
