Atacames, Ecuador

Hotel

By Katie Tibbetts

If you plan on hitting Atacames with a group of four or more, then Hostal Ximena is your best bet. Suites include clean, modern rooms with screened windows (a plus considering the mosquitoes) and large tiled bathrooms. Caribbean and coral colors add a splash of flavor to the already appealing hotel, and if you didn’t get enough of the beach you can always hang out on the private balconies which come with the rooms. If the owner is out of town, you’ll probably be greeted by his sister Noemi Pico, who’s as accommodating as the rest of the place. Unfortunately, there is only one matrimonial room so its not the most economical option for less than three or four people. Call ahead for reservations during temporada alta (high season).
