There are a couple of pizza restaurants in town, but Pizzeria Da Giulio is probably the most gourmet-like. Owner Giulio was born in Italy and spent fourteen years working in Milan; whether or not this is proof of authenticity is something you’ll have to decide for yourself. This Italian-Ecuadorian couple goes to great lengths to ensure their ingredients are fresh and true to Italian form, something easier said than done in a country where rice, platanos, and meat are the staples. Cheese is bought from a specialty store in Quito and the mushrooms are hand chopped and marinated in a special mix of olive oil and garlic. Though pizza is the specialty, the restaurant also offers a variety of fish, chicken and meat dishes—all of which can be enjoyed with an ocean view. Irena says everything is delicious, but recommends Spaghetti de Marisco, or Pizza Frutti de Mare and the Capricciosa. They are also open for breakfast.
