Set back from the main road, Hostal El Cisne is a quiet place to rest your head for the night. A large, alarmingly orange concrete building, the hotel lacks the character of smaller hostels but more than makes up for it in value and comfort. Clean, bright rooms come with a big bed, tiled floors, air conditioning, TV, and clean, private, cold-water showers. A parking lot will serve those with cars, and the hotel is conveniently located near the main street. This is probably one of the best value hotels in Esmeraldas. Note: most rooms are concrete blocks, with tiny slits for windows at the top of the ceiling, but unless you’re one for postcard views of sagging rooftops, there’s not much to see in Esmeraldas anyway.
