Playa Escondida - Ecological Retreat

Playa Escondida is located in a beautiful bay. The words "Playa Escondida" mean hideaway beach, indeed, it is way off the beaten track with the closest town 14kms away. The ecological refuge based here is large - 100 hectares. There is a commitment to protecting the flora and fauna from local hunters, logging, cattle and shrimp farming and commercial tourism.

The retreat currently has capacity for thirty people. There is a camping area with plenty of shade, with showers. There are no cooking facilities, but small campfires are allowed.

Getting There:
From Quito it is possible to take Tame Airlines to the city of Esmeraldas on the coast. Then grab a cab to km. 14, via Tonchigue-Punta Galera. Watch for the sign just 3 kms past Tonchigue to ensure that you don´t miss the abrupt right hand turn towards P

Price Description:It is possible to camp for $5 per person, per night, including tax. Room prices range from $10-$15 per person in the low season to $20-$36 plus tax in the high season.

A great place to get away from it all! Well-designed hostel, great food, remote atmosphere.

Very Peaceful

I camped here for 3 days. It was very peaceful, not a lot of people. It was nice to have space to yourself on the beach, unlike nearby crowded Atacames. The restaurant has good food, but the service tends to be a tad bit slow.
