This sister restaurant to one in Guayaquil of the same name is a traveler’s dream in Esmeraldas. Restaurants crammed with people seem a world away from this gem characterized by a quiet, friendly atmosphere set amidst marble floors, and tables with bright table clothes. Main entrees are a bit pricey for Esmeraldas standards, but the heaping plates that soon arrive quickly put your figuring mind to ease. Specialties include Asian-style stir fries and rice and noodle dishes, but the Ecuadorian Churrasco Cantones is also sure to please. If you’ve got a big group to feed, the Menu Familiar is perfect: 6 courses for $5.80 per person. Brand new when discovered, future travelers should cross their fingers that it’s a success and that the soft-spoken, genuinely friendly Maria Goretti is there to meet and greet. Perhaps the best service in Esmeraldas.
