Breakfast options are limited in Esmeraldas, unless you’re keen for some hearty soup and rice with platanos (delicious in its own right, but not what some wake up craving). If you’re in search of bread and other baked delights, head down to Cafeteria Colombiano. Getting there involves heading down Bolivar towards Las Palmas until it turns into Libertad and crosses Espejo; the bakery sits squat on the corner with a huge red and white sign and an open area with tables and chairs. Really all you have to do is follow your nose; the smell of fresh baked goods wafts on the air for half a block. If you ask, you might be able to get yourself a cup of coffee to go with that roll (Nescafé of course).
