If you grew up around Mompiche, surfing is ingrained in your blood from a really early age. So, don’t feel bad if you decide to try riding the waves and six year olds are flying past you looking like they were born on a board. The Mompiche Bay is an ideal place for novice surfers and pros. You’ll find all the surfers at the very southern end of the bay. There are three sections to catch the waves; only go out to the very far out area if you are confident in your ability not to be in the wave of other surfers. During busy season, from July to December, there are probably more surf board rental and surf class options. But, all-year round Morrongo at Punto Encuentro offers surf classes ($20 for two hours) and rents boards ($16 for a day and $8 for half a day). He doesn’t speak much English, but he is really patient and you are sure to be standing up and riding a wave by the end of the lesson.

Travel Tips: Best to take surfing classes earlier on in the morning when the waves are more frequent and there are less people in the water to get in your way.
