Those who grew up in Mompiche have surfing ingrained in their blood from an early age. So, don’t feel bad if you decide to try riding the waves and six-year-olds are flying past you looking like they were born on a board. The Mompiche Bay and Point break are the ideal places for novice surfers and pros, where you'll find them all clustered in different areas across the water during high season. There are three sections to catch the waves; only go to the outermost area by the point if you are confident in your surfing abilities and know the etiquette properly. Punto de Encuentro or La Facha Hostel offer surf classes ($20 for two hours) and rents boards ($15 for a day, and $8 for half a day, or if you're in a real hurry - $4 per hour).
