Hosteria Gabeal, separated from the rest of town by a large archway, offers a variety of accommodations right on the beach. Up a sandy, palm-lined drive, you’ll find private bungalows, a building with multiple rooms and an al fresco dining area, all built in the bamboo and thatch style that’s common in Mompiche.
Since it’s steps from the beach, the hostería has outdoor showers and taps where guests can wash off the salt and sand.
The rooms have insect netting over the beds and clean, private bathrooms with indoor showers.
A main building doubles as a reception area, bar and kitchen (seafood is available between 1 and 4 p.m.). You can rent one of the hotel’s surfboards for $3 per hour (surf lessons are available in town) or arrange to ride a horse down the beach (the hostería requires a day’s notice for horseback riding). During the summer months, Gabeal also offers whale watching tours at $10 per person, with a six person trip minimum.
The hotel also has a small, thatched bar with wooden saddle seats that it opens during high seasons.
If you plan to stay for over a week, and are not in town during a holiday, ask about a discount for your room.
The rates at Gabeal, which has an 80-person capacity, go up to $15 per person during holidays.

As you walk down Mompiche's main road, Calle Malecón, toward the beach, turn right at the town's only side street. Hosteria Gabeal is located at the end of the road through an archway.
