The San Marena hotel is a new addition to Mompiche. So new, in fact, that the upper stories aren't quite finished yet. In late 2008, the sounds of construction filled the hotel (as well as the smell of antiseptic) and a hotel pool was only in the planning stages.

Still, the finished areas of San Marena are a bright, cheery yellow. While most Mompiche accommodations are rustic, relying heavily on thatch and bamboo, San Marena is more in line with the clean, budget hotels found in the United States (Day's Inn or Red Roof spring to mind). The rooms are large and have fans, televisions and DVD players. Guests can also buy internet cards for their computers at the reception desk.

The hotel has space for 46 people in 14 rooms - which all have private bathrooms and balconies - including one room for five or more with an extra-large patio.

The restaurant downstairs is one of the only places in Mompiche where you can order chicken and meat as well as seafood dishes.

The only drawback is that San Marena is about a five minute walk from the beach (the furthest in town) and has no ocean views. The hotel is also across from the town's busy little store.

The prices for rooms will increase during high-traffic festival periods; if you're part of a group of eight or more, ask about a discount.
