Sorayita is a little place right next to Atardecer de Mompiche. It has the same food you’ll find all over town – shrimp, fish, langostino – only more delicious than the rest. The restaurant has a modest interior constructed mostly of palm wood and leaves. There are about five tables, most large enough to accommodate groups of eight or more. The only downside is the service. Sorayita’s two waitresses are attentive, but as they can’t be more than 10 years old, they don’t always get the order right. Be prepared to wait an hour or more to get your meal (although a long wait isn’t uncommon in Mompiche, it’s nice to know ahead of time). Also be sure to ask what menu items are available because not all will be in stock.
The prices are on the average to low side for Mompiche: $3-4 for a shrimp or fish plate, $5-6 for langostino. The encocados here are absolutely fantastic – your seafood of choice is prepared in a light, flavorful coconut broth reminiscent of a mild Thai curry, accompanied by patacones and a heaping side of rice.
