Manglares - Boating Muisne - Ecuador

The few mangroves that exist today around Muisne are but one-tenth of what they were in 1980's. After shrimp farming caught on, entire areas of mangroves were cut down to make way for the shrimp farms themselves. This has been one of the low-points in Muisne's history, given that the town formerly thrived off of low-impact fishing and gathering within the mangroves themselves. Fortunately, the people have made an effort to put an end to this in recent years, securing what mangroves remain in the area. Be sure to get a boat tour of them before leaving.
