Certainly the biggest, most hotel-looking joint in Muisne, Hotel Galápagos features large, clean rooms organized around a modest central garden. Owner José Miguel Ochoa is an older gentleman, in charge of maintaining the property himself, and he goes great strides to make guests feel comfortable. Originally from Loja, he is also keen to pass an afternoon chatting about local politics, so if you’re one for getting the low down on places you visit, pull up a chair. Due to a recent decline in Muisne tourism, he has been forced to close the hotel’s restaurant, but everything else about this place is open and ready for business. While Hotel Galápagos may not feature ocean views, the grounds are immaculate and beds comfortable. This is a good spot for families or large groups looking for something a bit more private than the hostels on the beach.
