This place seems to be the local favorite, recommended by motor-taxi drivers and extended-stay tourists. At a glance there is little to set it apart from the other restaurants, except that polished wood has replaced the ever-popular plastic tables and chairs. Inside, owner Martha greets patrons with a broad smile and warm air that makes even the newest islander feel welcome. The food is typical coastal cuisine (seafood served in soup, mixed with rice, or smothered in coconut sauce) but served with a distinct down-home flavor. Martha’s ever-chatty husband Lois is a good source of information on the island and more than eager to pass his knowledge on to anyone with an open ear. He can also organize impromptu horseback riding and boat excursions. If you’re curious: Martha recommends the Bandeja Marinera, while Lois favors the Encocado Marinero, both look appetizing.
