Located just a stone’s throw from BahÃa is Isla Corazon, home to endangered mangroves and numerous bird species. Learn about the local Mangrove Forest and estuary ecosystem, while interacting (and giving back to) the locals. The ever-friendly and outgoing guides Julio and Luciano can point out resident bird species, and explain the importance of this rare RÃo Chone estuary ecosystem. Tours include an introduction to the area, a boat and boardwalk tour of Isla Corazon and a traditional lunch (usually viche, a peanut-based seafood soup). Come for mating season (August to January) when you can spot the puffed red sacks of male frigate birds and appreciate the age-old search for a suitable (or willing) spouse. Island excursions need to be arranged through Guacamayo Tours.
