One of the newest additions to Canoa’s beachfront, Hostal Coco Loco is quickly becoming the most popular spot to spend the night. Owners Frans and Rika welcome new arrivals like old friends, quickly winning their hearts with fresh-baked treats, broad smiles, and down-to-earth attitudes. Its easy to spend a morning, afternoon, or evening idling around the kitchen counter, swapping travel stories and shooting the breeze. Of course, this place isn’t all talk: newly built and smartly styled rooms bear crisp clean sheets, new mattresses, and high-tech fans, which, when combined with a fresh sea breeze, are certain to relax the limbs and produce droopy eye-lids. Rooms are built around mock-beach area, complete with white sand and palm trees, and perfect for lounging about, or catching up on some pleasure reading. Accommodation ranges from shared bunks (themselves a steal with doors that open onto a sea-view porch hung with comfy hammocks) to large white-walled private rooms. And you’re bound to sleep soundly with the peace of mind that you’ll awake to one of the best breakfasts in Canoa. In the future, the couple hopes to provide common cooking facilities and a lounge area stocked with travel-friendly resources on South America. A true traveler’s meeting ground, Coco Loco provides all the comforts of home for an international crowd. And if you’re up for getting out and about, have a chat with Frans, who can organize paragliding tours and other local excursions. He also rents body boards.
