Sundown Inn

The Sundown Inn is very popular for its Spanish lessons programsand isolated, private beach location. Located a 20 minute walk, or a quick five minute bus ride to Canoa, The Sundown Inn is a great escape for couples or travelers looking for seclusion and tranquility, with only the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. The rooms are comfortable and modern, with hot water and hammocks on their beach-side balconies. Guests can also camp on the sand in front of the Inn, make a bonfire with driftwood, or play beach volleyball. While there is a restaurant on site that provides complimentary breakfasts, it is not always open during the off-season. The Canoa Spanish Language School run from the Inn offers one-on-one or group classes for $4 to $6 an hour, with discounts for students who plan to stay for awhile.

Sundowner Inn

This hostel was the worst one I stayed in while I was traveling Ecuador. The staff is very particular who they will be friendly too and found out there are hidden charges so make sure to get things in writing when you first arrive.  Also, if you love fried food and  lots of rice... you will love this place!

Lots of flaws

I attended the Sundown school and stayed at the hostel for 2 months.  At first I found my stay wonderful, with great guests and good teachers.  After awhile though I noticed a real change in the attitude of the family who ran the hostel and began to feel uncomfortable being around them and at times even unwelcome.  The food is greasy and unheathly and I am glad to eat quality food again instead of large quantities of rice and fried everything.Canoa is definitely worth checking out but I would reconsider staying and taking classes at the Sundown Inn, unless the attitude of the family changes. Also please watch out for how much you pay, they seem to dislike giving the website discount and we ended up paying more then what it should have been.
