Isla de la Plata - National Park - Ecuador

One of the highlights of the Parque Nacional Machililla, Isla de la Plata has earned the nickname of the Poor Man´s Galapagos because of the unique variety of birds, seals and iguanas that are found in both spots. From July to October you can see humpback whales.

The best spot to find a tour to the island is in Puerto López where several tour operators offer day trips including lunch and snorkeling, diving or fishing.

If you are planning to spend some time on the mainland areas of Parque Nacional Machililla, buy the combined entrance ticket for the island and the mainland for $20 ($5 for Ecuadorians). Otherwise, entrance to the island is $15 for foreigners and $3.50 for Ecuadorians.
