By Katie Tibbetts

Host to a wide range of hotels and hostals, Manta is bound to suit any traveler’s needs, from backpacker dives to 5 star luxury retreats. If you can swing it, find a place in the Oro Verde section of town (named after the lavish hotel of the same name). Situated on a hill in a quiet residential section of Manta, close to Playa Murcielago and Malecón Escénico, the places in this area tend to be safer and more stylish than those located over the Río Manta. And in some cases, staying here is only slightly more expensive than spending the night in Tarqui. If you're really pinching pennies, however, you might be best to start looking in Tarqui. While not considered to be as safe as its western counterpart, this area is full of character and is ready and waiting to greet guests with good budget hotels.
