Owner Kamil Boulhabel and his Japanese wife, Chiyo Ito, run this modest but popular joint fronting the Malecón. Glass-topped tables and tiled floors are a refreshing change from the white plastic tables and chairs that occupy other restaurants. Stop by for a bite to eat and a history lesson; Kamel will happily recite his experiences living in Algeria or traveling around Asia. The menu differs only slightly from neighboring restaurants, but the food is decent, service even better, and the menu del día a solid value. To really mix things up from standard Manabí fare order a glass of wine and the lasagna—while not Little Italy, it is something different. Or go all out and try the chef-recommended langosta al BBQ ($12.00).
