Pedernales is growing quickly, and new hotels open all the time. They top out at about three stars: a couple have pools, which is a bonus. The cheapest ones are located a block or two off the beach, although there are a couple of dives at the south end of the malecon that reminded me of the Panamanian jail in season three of "Prison Break."
