The "Cathedral of the Sea" gets its name from a tall wall on the front of the hotel that has a bell and which vaguely resembles a church facade. That's really all there is in terms of cathedral-ness, which I guess is just as well. I mean, who wants to sleep in a cathedral anyway?

It does have a garage (of a fix-a-car sort, with those little ramps you drive up) and a stable with several horses. And chickens. Almost forgot the chickens. It should probably be called "Stables of the Sea" or "Chicken coop of the sea." It also has an abandoned discotheque on the premises, with a nice view. Best part, really.

The good news: it's close to the beach, right across the street. The tiny rooms have air conditioning, and you'll be hard pressed to find another place in town with a/c for $14 per night. There is a slide and some other kid stuff, although the two-year old who was there when I was didn't want anything to do with it. The garden is nice and there is a gazebo. Need a hotel with a gazebo? This is the place. The public pool is also very close.

The bad news: The cheesy little bamboo bars are all right across the street, and when it's a holiday weekend, it's loud. Very, very loud. If you're going to be out all night, no problem. If you want to sleep, forget it.
