One of the activities you might hear about during your stay in Mindo is the area's “frog concert.†This show takes place nightly at 6:30 p.m., just outside of town at a lodge called Mindo Lago. While the event has an enticing title, the concert unfortunately does not actually involve any frogs putting on a performance. Instead, you take an hour-long walking tour, lit by flashlight. The tour starts by visiting a frog pool, and then proceeds around the lake into the woods, where the knowledgeable guide explains all about the flora and fauna of the cloud forest. The guide can even show you an unbelievable fungus that makes rotting wood naturally glow in the dark, frog-eating spiders, armadillo holes, giant crickets, and a species of lightning bug that has glowing eyes. The tour concludes back at the lodge, overlooking the lake, with a complimentary glass of wine. As an introduction to the cloud forest, the tour may be worth checking out; Mindo does not offer much else in the way of nightlife. The "frog concert" takes place at 6:30 p.m. nightly. The best time to go is shortly after or during rain, when all the frogs come out to sing.
