The Mindo Orchid Garden is a private collection of plants replanted from the nearby cloud forest. There are over 200 orchids on display, some large and easily-spottable, others so tiny you need a magnified glass to find them.
When entering the garden, you'll pay the small admission fee at a rickety shack for admittance to the garden and rental of a magnified glass. A guide—usually Hugolindo, the owner of the garden—will give you a private tour, explaining the names of each of the orchids and some of their key characteristics. His garden is truly a labor of love, and he beams proudly whenever travelers stop to snap pictures of the flowers. Tours are only conducted in Spanish, but if you only know a little bit you can just smile, nod, and take pictures.
