Tandayapa Bird Lodge - Hotel Mindo - Ecuador

Tandyapa, the self-proclaimed "ultimate birding destination," was built in 1999 on a pasture on the edge of the cloud forest outside of Mindo. The lodge has since planted over 30,000 trees to fill in the areas of the cloud forest that had been destroyed. Tandyapa, which is stacked with birding gear and viewing equipment, features a viewing deck, extensive trails throughout the forest and full-time guides willing to set out in search of birds at all hours of the day. There are several options for different day trips, each with a list of bird species found in those areas. Tandyapa has 12 rooms in the main building, all with hot water, private bathrooms and electricity.

Getting There:

When you get to the 52 Km marker on the Calacalí-La Independencia road, turn off of the main highway onto a gravel road that follows the bottom of the Tandayapa Valley. Continue through the forest, passing a few cow and trout farms, for another 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) until you get to the small discreet Tandayapa Bird Lodge sign.
