Located off the main drag (to the right if you are entering from the main access road), El Descanso is a little more expensive than its many hotel neighbors, but has clean, fresh rooms with hardwood floors and lofts. An open air café and lounge looks out onto a lovely hummingbird garden, where staff has spotted up to 18 different species of hummingbird. The lounge also has games for guests.

One great feature that this hotel offers is the open-air attic loft, which is $12 per person including breakfast and shares one bathroom. The other rooms all have private baths are $16 per person, or if you don’t want breakfast, there is a $2 discount.

It’s a good idea to bring slippers or flip flops because there are no shoes allowed on the hardwood floors. There is no smoking inside the hotel.

Best place to see hummingbirds in Mindo

It's amazing how many different kind of hummingbirds you can find in the very nice garden of el descanso. And the best thing ist you don't have to pay to observe the birds. The best moment is in the morning by breakfast. Just a very lovely place. I hope will go back there again. Jose / Alicante

Best place to see humhingbirds

I stayed in march 06 in el descanso. Besidfe the ecellent breakfast with homemade brad I enjoye so much in the el descanso garden the observation of all this different kind of hummingbirds. Steve /UK

The rooms are clean and very comfortable, and the breakfast is nice. Being slightly off the main street in Mindo, El Descanso has a quieter feel to it, and is an ideal place to rest and relax!!
