Posada Restaurante El Bijao

El Bijao is a discount hotel with excellent service, features. The main building features a restaurant and upstairs lounge and game room with a pool table. There are a few rooms in this main building with private bathrooms that cost $7.50 per person with breakfast included (prices stay the same all year). Two rooms share a bathroom and the rate drops to $5 per person, but breakfast is not included. The best feature of this hotel is the separate cabin out back. With room for eight people, a full kitchen and one bathroom, this house can be rented out for $45 per night. It looks out over the almost-completed pool and lounge area.

This is one of the few budget places in Ecuador that is almost completely handicapped accessible. A pool, changing area and outdoor lounge are under construction - they will be accessible for those in wheelchairs.

Probably the best feature of this hotel, though, is the service. The owner, Cesar, is an environmental activist in the area and has some great stories about fights with Quito and the government to preserve Mindo’s nature reserves from an oil pipeline (which went in anyway) and the current fight to protect Mindo’s rivers from being used for potable water in Quito.
