Mindo is small and very popular; therefore, it is essential to plan your trip right, or you may be stuck in stopped traffic before you even get in the entrance to town. The high tourist season is from July to October and holiday weekends, when Quiteños flee the city en masse in search of some fresh air.
Fiestas de Mindo (Mindo's yearly city celebration) begins the second weekend in May and goes until the end of the month. The festivities begin with the election of a city beauty queen (La Reina de Mindo) in the town convention center, just off the main drag near El Rincon del Río restaurant.
