Running across the eastern side of the Maquipucuna Reserve, just a short distance from Calacalí, is the small community of Yunguilla. A network of 45 families have united to form an association to promote eco-tourism and produce local products, which range from marmalades, cheese, organic products and recycled paper. Volunteer opportunities are available and the community welcomes visitors. Lodging is available at the community-run Casa Tahuallullo, a modest cabin with cooking facilities and space for eight . Another option is to check in with a local family. Guided day-walks, as well as longer treks into the nearby cloud forest are available. For information, contact the Fundacíon Maquipucuna in Quito.
