Puerto Hondo mangroves - Other Activity Guayaquil - Ecuador

Just one kilometer (.62 mi) west of the entrance to the Cerro Blanco forest reserve is Puerto Hondo, a dry, beaten down town that sits on the edge of a slender saltwater estuary. Although the village itself is of little interest, the nearby mangrove swamps around the estuary are worth a visit. You can make the trip there via motorized canoes as part of a tour organized by a local guide association and the Pro Bosque Foundation. To get there, catch a bus heading toward the Cerro Blanco forest reserve and ask to be dropped off at the Puerto Hondo turnoff. From there, head south; it is about a five-minute walk from the highway.
