Finding somewhere to eat in Guayaquil is not as relaxed an experience as in Ecuador’s more tourist-friendly cities. Many of the restaurants in the center are either bog-standard or else overpriced, attached to high-class hotels. However, look hard enough and you will find some very appealing options. Away from the center, head up to Las Peñas for the most relaxed evening experience or, alternatively, to the northern district of Urdesa, which has plenty of good restaurants along the main street Victor Emilio Estrada. After dinner, Las Peñas has plenty of bars to have a civilized drink. If you want something more raucous, head to la Zona Rosa along Rocafuerte between Roca Rodriguez and Juan Montalvo, but don’t stray from the main street and take a taxi back to your hotel.
