V!VA User‘s Description Once little more than a commercial hub, frequented more by business visitors than travelers, Ecuador's largest city has recently been swept away in a current of cultural revival. You can easily spend a couple of days strolling along the beachfront boardwalk (Malecón) or visiting museums and trendy restaurants. There are plenty of opportunities to side-trip outside the city. A few highlights include the Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco, Puerto Hondo and Playas, Guayaquil's closest beach.

Best city ever! Awesome place and people...if you want to have a blast and have lots of fun go to Guayaquil...you won't regret a second of it! I just loved it!
Friendly and warm people, excellent food.
I went to visit Guayaquil on a tour, our final destination was the Galapagos Islands, but let me tell you that we did enjoy every step of the way. Guayaquil is a tropical city located right next to a big river called the "Guayas" and just an hour drive from the nearest beach of "Salinas" my favorite. We tried all the buffets in the area, the fresh seafood in particular. I was impressed by the beautiful landmarks, a day at the "Malécon 2000" would be extraordinary, 2 miles long full of places to eat. Ecuador uses the US dollar as a currency and it is very easy to get around, nice hotels are always available.
