Tierra Prometida

Run by a young energetic group of Israeli friends, Tierra Prometida (Promised Land) is hip, new, fun and always changing. The owners have many plans for future improvements including an internet room, a mini market downstairs as well as plans for constantly changing decor and paintings. There is a lounge with board games, Play Station II, cable TV and a DVD player with a selection of movies and books. There is a pool table on the balcony upstairs and a few other outdoor balconies for relaxing. The owners encourage young guests as opposed to families and will sometimes even try to have an even male-female ratio in their guest selection.

Guests receive a 10% discount in the downstairs restaurant, which, among many other things like homemade bread, steak, seafood and breakfasts, serves the only iced cappuccinos for miles.

The price range is about $5-20 per person depending on the room and the season. Laundry service is $0.75 per pound.

Traveler Reviews of Tierra Prometida

I love this place.

I love how the whole hotel is like a big maze! The hammocks outside every room and the mattresses out on the balconies are fun to just chill in. It's just fabulous.

I love it!

I love everything, its a very familiar place, and its perfect to be in Montañita. All magical!

great spot

I stayed in Tierra Prometida several nights and because of the small cafe downstairs it was a great place to hang out and meet up with people. It also faces one of the two main roads so it's a great place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the action. If you need a good night's rest, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, it's amazing.

Bad experience

Me and the guest next door got robbed. In town, I met 2 other girls that were also robbed here. Be careful.

One step up...

When asked the secret of Tierra Prometida, your host may tell you it is "one step up..." See they add "one step up" from the other restaurants on the strip in Montanita. Where others have cut fruit in a bowl, his fruit is placed in a patern on the plate. Where others serve bread, he serves a selection of rolls, where most only serve freeze dried Nescafe (which when mixed with hot milk and sugar is actually a tasty pseudo cafe con leche avaialble throughout Ecuador for breakfast), Tierra Prometida has the ONLY espresso machine with a milk steamer in miles. Yes tis true -- you can get your cappucino fix in Montanita.

Perhaps that is why this place is rightly named La Tierra Prometida. But do try the falafel and pita which is baked in the local pizza oven (damn good pizza at that place -- Chief's Pizza, another good meal)

Hint, if you went to Hebrew school, a friendly "shalom aleichem" (Peace, be with you! greeting in hebrew) to your dark curly haired and bearded owner/host will bring a sure smile and some interesting information about everything in Montanita.

The best place in Montañita

I recomend the breakfast - for only 2.5 dollars you eat omelette, fruit and vegetables, coffee or tea and natural juice. The best in Montañita!!!!

Good rooms, but the best thing is the people because in this place you meet a lot of people from so many different places and countries.

The place closes very late, and this, in Montañita, is great.

Visité este hotel en dos oportunidades (2003 y 2004) y me pareció un sitio genial. Altamente recomendable para aventureros que aún lejos de casa quieren seguir sintiendo calor de hogar.

Definitivamente quiero volver :)
